RE: 7 thousand dollar brake repair. Be careful when you buy.

WOW this rotor is shot. What is a "tone ring"? http://i38.tinypic.com/fk15bm.jpg The tone ring is the toothed part, those should be separate teeth not one rusty mess. As the wheel rotates the teeth pass an electronic sensor that sends a signal to the ABS computer to tell it how fast the wheel is turning.

RE: Running Gear Repair Shop In Brookings, OR

Also check inside the front wheel trims, we had a center hub cover rolling around inside ours.

RE: Tow Car recomendations

Back to non-grand cherokees. Chrysler deleted the vacuum disconnect front axle from the later 4x4's, so there's greater drag when towing 'cause everything from the front wheels to the transfer case is rotating.

RE: Uh oh, leaky PowerGear jack. Now what?

Thanks for all the helpful info. I found a hydraulic shop that's familiar with the task and ordered the seal kit.

Uh oh, leaky PowerGear jack. Now what?

Front PowerGear jack is leaking. I see there are re-seal kits available but it looks to be quite a project. Has anyone done this themselves? Or had it done by a non RV repair/machine shop? Or just bought/installed a new jack? Or?

RE: CB antenna Side Mount, Do you have one on your rig ?

Can an antenna point down instead of up? SOooo...nobody knows...huh? You can point it anywhere you want, the real question is will it work as well as one pointed up? The theoretical answer to that question is no, but how much worse it will be depends on the type of antenna. A firestick or other antenna like the one pictured on the first page of this thread with the wire wound all the way along the shaft with more turns at the end (top loaded) will probably not be impacted too badly by being mounted upside down. That's assuming the position relative to the body of the coach is the same, in other words you aren't comparing an antenna that's in the open above the coach, with one hanging down alongside the body, and they are both tuned correctly (minimum SWR). An antenna with the coil at the cable end (bottom loaded) will suffer more, that's because (when mounted normally) the radiation from the bottom loaded antenna is directed quite significantly above the horizon, so when you invert it the radiation is directed more towards the ground. The energy from the top loaded antenna (when mounted normally) radiates at a lower angle, so when that one is inverted it isn't firing so much into the ground. Having written all that, the real world answer is "maybe". Most CB antenna installations are so much less than perfect, and are affected by the coach structure, that it's a bit of a******shoot. I would get a clamp type mount so you don't have to do any irrevocable drilling and see how it works for you.

RE: Tires for Wrangler TJ 4x4

Personally, I like the BF Goodrich All Terrain. Yep, I'll second that. Great tires for a multi purpose wrangler or cherokee.

RE: Blue Ox Curly Cord Question

Mine came with metal connectors on the cable, but the fixed connectors are plastic. Thank you both for sharing your experience.

Blue Ox Curly Cord Question

I just got the Blue Ox Coiled Electrical Cord and 6 pin connector set. I'm not real excited by the way the cable is latched into the connectors just by the plastic connector cover, I expected a more positive latching mechanism. If you use this set up have you had problems with the cable unplugging during use? Do you use a strap or anything to make it more secure?

12 volt fan recommendations

I want to install a couple of above the dash fans, does anyone have a suggestion for brand/type to buy? I'm looking for something a similar size/style to the Caframo Camano but hopefully one that moves more air.

RE: How long will gas fridge run on cabin batts?

My trailer draws 1/2 amp with the propane detector, radio memory and fridge gas valve open. An 80 amp hr battery should provide 80 hours of this operation and be close to 50% discharged. This assumes 100% duty cycle. So maybe 3 to 5 days per battery depending on exactly what you have. Thanks for your helpful response.

How long will gas fridge run on cabin batts?

Anyone care to guess how long a gas fridge will run (on gas) with the cabin batteries powering the gas detector/valve?

RE: Any way to avoid Good Sam junk mail?

For those who are fed up with Good Sam mailings and Affinity Group, just who do you think provides this Forum that you are so anxious to use, especially to voice your displeasure??? Maybe if this is their forum they could learn something by reading it from time to time? I stand by my comment, continually mailing me 2 ounce mailers consisting of: 1 x mailing envelope with plastic window 5 x 8 1/2" by 11" sheets of heavy paper 1 x 3 7/8" by 6 3/4" sheet of paper 1 x 7" x 4" plastic decal 1 x plastic credit card sized imitation membership card after I have asked them to stop is a total waste of resources and my money.

RE: Any way to avoid Good Sam junk mail?

I've called GS twice, the second call stopped most, but not all, of it. I always wonder how much less my dues would be if they didn't keep wasting my money sending me expensive mailings to get me to sign up for services I'm already buying.

RE: New California Smog Test

It is just not MH that have to take the test. My DW took her 99 Van in and it failed the pressure testing. The tech said there was a fuel leak. I found a pinhole leak in the rubber tubing. Took it back and it passed It's a '99? According to the B.A.R. the new test only applies to '76 to '95, so I don't understand why they would have applied it to your vehicle. Although it's obviously good to have identified and fixed this problem...

RE: RDX/MDX Tow with Dolly?

All Honda 4 wheel drives have hydraulic fluid that is sent to the rear axle when front wheels slip. I can't speak to all Honda vehicles, but that's certainly not true for the Pilot or the MDX. Those have an electric clutch in the rear end which engages when the computer decides some RWD is called for. The electric clutch does sit in fluid, like a regular diff does, but the fluid never goes anywhere.

RE: Shore Power Question - TRIK-L-START

It would also be useful to know if the proposed transformer is an isolating transformer (separate primary and secondary windings) or an autotransformer (a single tapped winding). If an autotransformer then they need to be extremely careful with the neutral/ground connections.
